Professionals in Mission: Certificate in Applied Theology in Cross Cultural Contexts (CertHE)

'Professionals in Mission' Certificate
(CertHE in Applied Theology in Cross-Cultural Contexts)

Whether you are an accountant, teacher, plumber, IT specialist, development worker or vet, if God has called you to use your skills in cross-cultural mission then the right kind of focused training is vital.

Our one year validated 'Professionals in Mission' Certificate addresses the issues surrounding living and working in cross-cultural situations, while also allowing you time to explore your own personal needs in preparation for cross-cultural mission service.

For details about the 25+ modules available on this course, please take a look at the PIM Modules PDF Download.

Who is this course for?

  • Are you a professional seeking to use your skills for God?
  • Are you preparing to go on mission and would like to be better equipped for cross-cultural work?
  • Or are you looking for a significant second career in cross-cultural mission in the latter stages of your working life?

Our Professionals in Mission (PIM) students have diverse careers and come from varying backgrounds. What is similar, however, is that many have already developed links with a particular mission agency or organisation and have an idea of what they will be going on to do after study.

A number of our PIM students have spouses and children and benefit greatly from our family-friendly facilities, including a well-equipped crèche which is available during lectures.

"PIM is ideal for people preparing to serve God's Kingdom with their profession. I studied biblical and mission relevant topics which prepared me for everyday life on the mission field. The course also gave me new spiritual insights, which have been helpful to me in the economic and commercial world of Asia." (student)

Course Structure...

As a Professionals in Mission student you will have the opportunity to choose modules from the other Applied Theology courses available at Redcliffe. You will be able to tailor your study to your particular requirements and can choose modules from a comprehensive range of biblical, theological and missiological subjects as well as practical and language studies.

There are also number of modules that are only available to PIM students, providing you with dedicated training in areas such as cross-cultural communication, living and working cross culturally, understanding other faiths, leadership skills and team building.

"Whether being presented with different world views in lectures or encountering new perspectives on Christianity from fellow students, Redcliffe encourages students to engage with the new and unfamiliar." (student)

Concurrent Placements...

Our weekly placement programme forms an integral part of the Redcliffe experience for PIM students. Your placement will provide unique opportunities to use your professional skills in a cross-cultural setting or stretch your faith and skills by trying something new.

Our Director of Placements will be on hand to help you find a suitable weekly placement to complement your study.

You can read more placement articles in our Mission Placements section.

"Living with people of different nationalities and from other cultures is preparation in itself! Also, being able to gain from tutors' experiences and perspectives of mission makes the PIM course an excellent choice for those preparing for mission service." (student)

Life after Redcliffe...

After a year of preparation, many students go on to use their professional skills in a variety of cross-cultural ministries around the world, which include...

  • community development work in the Middle East,
  • providing IT support for missionaries in Thailand,
