 Mission Africa
When Jamaican student Robert went on an African mission placement to Kenya, he said he felt he had 'come home'. He is one of many students who come to Redcliffe to prepare for African mission. Of course, for other students, Africa is home, and the training they receive will enable them to carry out their mission work with greater effectiveness.
Course modules such as Development Studies, Urban Mission and Primal Religions and the Spirit World are particularly relevant to those with an interest in African mission, and there are many opportunities for mission placements on the continent.
Redcliffe has links with two Theological Colleges in Africa: Domboshawa Theological College in Zimbabwe through the exchange of information, faculty and students and the Christian University in Uganda, where two former Redcliffe lecturers now work. The Pan-African network RURCON is also a partner, and our students have benefited from the input of several of their mission staff who have lectured at the college.
"As a member of associate faculty I was able to contribute to a number of lectures in mission, including development studies. The fact that we visit, see and discuss issues with the very poor, or with bodies directly working with them, position us to share more realistically, convey the poor's understanding and project more accurately the issues surrounding them." (Gaston Slanwa, Francophone Programme Officer, RURCON)
