 Study Tracks An opportunity to focus
Redcliffe has a diverse range of subjects to choose from at all levels of undergraduate study, covering areas of biblical study, theology, cross-cultural mission and practical experience. If however, you would like to focus on a particular area of mission, our study track guide will help you choose the optional subjects most relevant to your interest. Professionals in Mission students can choose from Level 1 and Level 2 courses.
Key Mission Modules
These optional modules are recommended if you are planning to study at Redcliffe in order to work in a cross-cultural context. They include: Biblical Basis of Mission/Issues and Trends in Mission, Cross-cultural Communication and Contextualised Theologies in Tri-Continental Contexts, Living and Working Cross-culturally, and the Modern Missionary Movement/Globalisation and Mission.
Study Tracks
The following study tracks will help you focus on a particular area of mission, however you are still able to choose from the whole range of modules on offer. The study track download (link this to the pdf download of the insert) gives a full list of the recommended modules within each study track.
Ministry to People from Other Religions and Worldviews This track will help you explore how to minister effectively to Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, 'pagans' and agnostics.
Your module choices could include: Hinduism and Buddhism, Christian Response to Secularism and New Religious Movements, Islamics, and Religious Experience in Select Traditions
Mission and Development Concerned about poverty and underdevelopment in much of the world? Wanting to do something practical and useful about it? You’ll find this track highly relevant to your concerns and future ministry.
Your module choices could include: Biblical Perspectives on Wealth and Poverty/ Gender Issues, Christian Ethics and Mobilising Business as Mission/ Development Studies
Mission in Europe If you feel called to mission in the UK or elsewhere in Europe, you can prepare either through a twelve-week short course from January to April, or as part of a longer, and if you wish, validated course. For more information go to European Mission Studies Track
Your module choices could include: European Studies, Modernism and Postmodernism/Urban Mission and Church Growth and Christian Response to Secularism and New Religious Movements
Bible, Theology and Practical Skills Develop your understanding of the Bible, explore important theological issues from a global perspective and learn about public speaking and pastoral skills to fully equip you for your future ministry.
Your module choices could include: Bible Study Methods/Leadership, Developing Pubic Communication Skills, Biblical Hebrew, New Testament Greek and Biblical Interpretation.
Placements to complement your chosen study track You will do a concurrent placement alongside your studies, which where possible will relate to your area of interest. For all levels except Professionals in Mission, you will also undertake a block placement, allowing you to gain experience relevant to your chosen track.
Asian Studies Track – MA in Intercultural Studies in Asian Contexts
If you want to prepare for work in Asia or with Asians in other parts of the world, this MA programme will enable you to deepen your understanding of Asian worldviews. If you already have mission experience, it is an opportunity to research and better understand the Asian context in which you already work. In addition to the MA programme, specific Asian studies modules will be introduced to the undergraduate programme over the next three years.
