Andrew Gwaivangmin

Andrew Gwaivangmin

Andrew Gwaivangmin is Team Leader and CEO of RURCON (Rural and Urban Resources, Counselling, Outreach and Networking), an independent agency assisting West African churches and Christian organisations in holistic development. RURCON provides training and education for people all over West Africa who are affected by the poverty that free trade brings.

While at Redcliffe, Mr Gwaivangmin conducted lectures for Redcliffe students on community development and holistic mission and also led a special seminar at the college on the then recently published report from the Commission for Africa.

In April 2005 Andrew played a key part in the Trade Justice Vigil in London.  At sunrise on the Saturday morning (16th April), he led the procession to No.10 Downing Street, where he and a fellow campaigner handed over a huge white band signed by thousands of protesters throughout the night.

"I felt very privileged to be part of the Trade Justice event in London," he said. "For me, seeing the huge crowd was mind blowing.  I was moved that there were so many people, young and old, disabled and able bodied and that they were all talking about just one thing – trade justice."

"This was love in action, where people are speaking out on behalf of the poor."
