Scripture Engagement: Approaches and Issues

Redcliffe's MA in Bible and Mission enables students to explore mission in the Bible and the Bible in mission thinking and practice.We are offering the MA module Scripture Engagement: Approaches and Issues as a stand alone course, from 12-16 May 2014.

Who is the course for?

This course is for anyone involved in using the Bible in many different contexts, including student or schools ministry, teaching and preaching in the local church and in cross-cultural mission. 

Course participants come from a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences. You’ll learn from each other as you discuss issues together, as well as from lectures and reading.

Course content
You will be enabled to explore and evaluate a number of approaches to using the Bible in different cultural contexts. This includes:
  • The Bible as an agent or tool of mission.
  • Issues in Scripture Engagement; for example: contextualisation, Bible translation, orality.
  • Approaches in Scripture Engagement; for example: the use of the arts, Bible storying, digital media.
How do I study?
You’ll attend Redcliffe for a week during our MA Summer School. Online components will help you to prepare and consolidate your learning, alongside structured reading, lectures and workshops, and visits from experienced senior leaders. 

Who is teaching?

The course leader is Tim Davy, Director of Research and Innovation. Staff from Bible Society and Wycliffe Bible Translators are also involved in the teaching. 

Can I study for credit?

Yes! If you complete the assignments, you can either register and continue with the MA in Contemporary Missiology at Redcliffe, or use the credit as APL (accredited prior learning) to study with us up to three years later.  If you wish to continue with an MA, the cost of this module will be deducted from the total fee.

Residential:
As a stand alone course £1050 
For credit, including marking assignments £1300
This includes full board accommodation while you are at Redcliffe and online learning before and after each study intensive. 
 
Non-residential:
As a stand alone course £875 
For credit, including marking assignments £1125
This includes lunch and dinner each day, as well as online learning before and after the study intensive.

Centre for the Study of Bible and MissionRedcliffe's specialist Centre for the Study of the Bible and Mission. hosts an Bible and Mission lecture, and a visiting scholar from the Global South. It also aims to develop a bi-annual consultation focusing on the Bible and Mission.
