This twelve-week course provides students with the essential skills to reach out across the cultures.
The course is ideal for anyone preparing for mission overseas or in the UK, or those on a gap year or sabbatical. It is also a useful refresher (and refreshing) short course for missionaries on home assignment.
Course structure
The Across the Cultures course runs during Semester 1 each year. The course combines academic study with practical experience and personal growth. The core modules focus on building the essential skills and developing your character in preparation for the challenges of living and working in amongst different cultures, wherever that may be in the world. Subjects covered include living and working cross-culturally, spiritual formation for life and ministry, teamwork and conflict resolution.
You also choose three optional modules which help to deepen your knowledge on a range of issues such as understanding the Bible, world religions, cross-cultural communication and contextualisation. You can select the topics most appropraite to your context.
You'll also be able to take time out to read and reflect, listen to God and experience life in a vibrant multi-cultural community. You will play a full part in community life, including belonging to a community group, taking part in community workship and teamworks.
Across the Cultures is taught at Higher Education level, and students completing the course are awarded a Redcliffe College short course certificate. Whilst the course is unvalidated, it is possible to build on your studies in order to complete a
Certificate in Applied Theology in Intercultural Studies, validated by the University of Gloucestershire.
What the students say
Our time at Redcliffe has served as a very good transition period
between leaving Holland and going to serve in Singapore. We have
received a lot of support from people here
Lectures are a challenge to explore the insights of others and develop
our own opinions and are an excellent preparation for the realities of
mission in a changing world. The atmosphere is a supportive one where
questions and uncertainty can be freely expressed
