Just living: The quest for fairness in a finite world
A day conference organised in conjunction with the John Ray Initiative
Saturday 17 January 2009
9.30am – 4.30pm
The idea of economic growth for all is a noble aim, but if growth means using resources as the West does, earth's limits will be hit, and in many places already have been. Felling the last tree, while it brings "growth" for one generation, can mean poverty for the next.
In just living for today we have squandered for one generation what has been saved up for many. Is there a model for development that fits in with how the earth was made, enabling us to live justly alongside our global neighbour? And can the Bible help us understand true wealth; wealth that those who are struggling just to live can share?
In this conference we aim to move beyond polite guilt to a practical understanding of what this created world can carry, how it can be shared and what we can do, in our quest for fairness in a finite world.
Speakers include Dewi Hughes (Theological Advisor for Tearfund), Peter Price-Thomas (The Natural Step) and Dr Andrew Steer .
