Encounters Mission Ezine

Produced to resource the mission community, Encounters Mission Ezine is a topical mission magazine / mission journal published online every two months.  Encounters is a place to discuss issues being faced in mission and provides a unique space where those involved in mission can respond and express their views.

But Why?

For some time now it has been evident that there has not been enough discussion, particularly in the UK and Europe, about the 'big issues' in mission, with a resulting lack of genuinely innovative thinking.

We suspect that one of the reasons for this is the lack of a significant mission journal, committed to the gospel, aimed at church and mission agency leaders (and not just academics) and published in the UK.

Any local culture needs to have the means to express itself if it is to survive.  If we rely wholly on imports - getting our best ideas from the three or four excellent American mission magazines (or the export market, with our best writers contributing to magazines/journals published abroad) then we will end up with a mission culture that has lost its flavour and vitality.

In short a new mission 'magazine' or 'journal' was required, and so we have created an online version here – Encounters Mission Ezine.

Format...

We aim to publish the Encounters Mission Ezine online every two months.  Each edition will usually consist of three or more articles advancing a major thesis about mission today.  We also hope to include regular guest Editors, who are experienced in their particular field.

Discussion...

Many readers have expressed that they greatly value Encounters as a mission journal, but the pressure of daily life means that it is not always the time to discuss the issues raised.  That said, we will attempt to make it as easy as possible for those who can respond to interact with us and discuss the topics covered.

We seek to publish a representative cross-section of responses, but understandably may need to exercise editorial judgement on occasions.  Contributions will usually receive a response from the Editor and further replies to the Editor's response are also very welcome!

The Future...

The great thing about an online magazine/journal, or 'Ezine', is its flexibility.  Encounters was developed out of a need to stimulate missiological discussion and its aim is resource the wider mission community. 

Hence, we welcome your feedback on ways in which we can improve Encounters, so please do get in touch with your comments or suggestions.
