The Blended Mode MA combines distance learning and residential summer schools

Flexible Learning Mode MA

"This way of doing the MA is very flexible allowing me to study from home while being responsible for family members. It's a challenging course and we have regular assignments to submit. The topics really make you think about how to engage and reach the world around us." (student currently completing her dissertation)

The Flexible Learning Mode MA runs over 3 to 4 years and allows you to combine study with work commitments. This format is particularly suitable for those unable to spend long periods of time away from work, including missionaries based overseas or international students.

All five of our MA programmes can be studied via this distance learning type format.

There is a 3-week residential intensive summer school at the beginning of each of the first 2 years (the 2011 dates are 9 to 27 May). This provides students with an intensive period of seminars along with time for reading and collecting relevant material.

Throughout the rest of the year, learning takes place through personal study with email support from tutors. Students will need access to the internet.

The first year covers the two compulsory modules and in the second year students can choose two optional modules.

The dissertation must normally be submitted within 12 months of completing the second academic year.

"The summer school is a very intense period of learning. Studying during the year is not so intense, but we still managed to have good interaction with tutors and fellow students even though we are in different time zones.

My study this year has informed my job, and my job has informed my study. Personally this is a very good reason for studying the MA in Flexible Learning Mode." (student currently at the dissertation stage)

The MA in Global Leadership in Intercultural Contexts can also be studied in flexible learning mode, over three long weekends. The 2010/11 dates (covering the first two modules) are

  • Friday 8 October  – Monday 11 October 2010
  • Friday 10 December  – Wednesday 15 December 2010
  • Friday 13 May  – Tuesday 17 May 2011
