 Understanding our Muslim Neighbours A series of four evening classes for local Christians
Tuesday 19, 26 Jan and 2, 9 Feb 7.30pm – 9.30pm
Many Christians want to get to know their Muslim neighbours better but don't know where to start. In these four evening sessions you will learn about Islamic beliefs, practices and culture so that you will be better equipped to relate to Muslim people.
The four sessions are:
Week 1 (19 January): Islam in Outline Week 2 (26 January): Culture, Values and Lifestyle Week 3 (2 February): Faith Shared Week 4 (9 February): Changed Communities
Each week will comprise taught sessions and groupwork, and there will also be the opportunity for questions. Refreshments will be served part-way through the evening.
Course leader: The sessions will be led by Rev Dr Colin Edwards. Originally from New Zealand, Colin trained as a medical doctor and spent 15 years in Bangladesh with Interserve. He and his family moved to the UK in 2008 and Colin has taken up the role of Team Leader for Urban Vision, Interserve's cross cultural work within England and Wales. Colin teaches Christian-Muslim Relations at Redcliffe at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He is currently working on a PhD in Christian-Muslim relations.
Cost: £5 per evening or £17.50 for the whole course if you book in advance.
