 A student's perspective (1)
Jo left Redcliffe in 2004 and spent a year working in Ecuador with Latin Link, as part of their STRIDE programme. She reflects on her experience...
"When I applied for the STRIDE programme, Latin Link mentioned the theological side of the preparations - that we had to do either a compulsory week, or a term at a Bible College.
"At first I baulked at the idea of Bible College - it just didn’t seem to ‘be me’. As I lifted it up in prayer however, I gradually realised that this was what God wanted me to do.
"Obviously I was only at Redcliffe for seven weeks, which meant there was a limit to the amount I could learn. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed and benefited from every moment. In fact we all (the other three Striders and me) partly wished that we could stay at Redcliffe longer, as the experience really did whet our appetites!
"I can’t say there was any particular lecture or theme that helped me in my year, but I do know that God used my time at Redcliffe to prepare me more fully for my year in Ecuador. It gave me a firmer base from which to start and enabled me to understand the rich history we have as children of God - to see myself as part of a long-line of God using his children to do His work.
"The term also served to get me more 'excited' about theology, about going deeper into the Bible and into Biblical issues. Not just as an aid to going overseas short-term, but as a life-long endeavour.
"Of course, as well as all the study, I encountered a very rich living environment and was incredibly blessed by all the friendships formed in such a short space of time. I would thoroughly recommend going to Redcliffe!"
